From what I heard the gates opening was just one big lag fest and server crash after server crash. I didnt get to see it on the server I was playing on at the time because I was still leveling up and didn't have a high level to get on.

I did hear that the mobs that spawned during the event had a very high percentage to drop epics and blue items. Most of the big named guilds just rounded up those mobs to get the loots. That may be why they hit the gong when no one was around. I also think you get that rare mount for doing it too.

Yes, some of them drop quite a few items. Latency was a huge issue on Uther. That was before we were moved to new hardware, and there was enough activity in Silithus to cripple the server for the a good portion of the event. It was great when the server actually crashed, though, since it caused all the mobs to respawn. Tag a few, draw them back to the Hold, and let the guards kill them for you.

One person per faction per server could get the legendary bug mount.

Yeah it was definitely a lagfest on Mal'Ganis. However, the guild that opened the gates and did the vast majority of work (even bought alliance accounts on our server to funnel materials to them because the alliance was only at about 50-55% when the horde was finished) was nice enough to time the opening so it happened on a weekend afternoon so the most people could see it. We had a server crash as well, but it was still a fun event to see.

I'm sorry for realms like Ysera that had impatient morons transfer in and ruin the fun for everyone. So sad that people feel the need to do that... but oh well, I'm glad that they fixed it afterwards so it didn't keep happening.

Eek! :? So I looked to see how many of the servers I used to do that are in red (in the same faction I already had a character) and it came to a grand total of 13! I will be very busy once again. Here are the servers I will be working on, so either move to the other faction or get another one. When I do census gathering for a server that is red at do at least 10 in one sitting to really help it out. I am not sure how many full run throughs you guys do.

Cho'gall Alliance
Stormreaver Alliance
Lightning's Blade Alliance
Azshara Alliance
Ursin Horde
Shadowmoon Horde
Dark Iron Horde
Dalaran (PVE server) Alliance + horde if needed
Garona Horde
Arthas Alliance
Anetheron Horde
Malfurion(PVE server) Horde + Alliance if needed
Moonrunner Alliance

Don't burn yourself out =) Just do the ones you feel like doing, don't feel obligated to cover a bunch!

I learned my lesson. I won't be doing these everyday but I will hit them at least 2-3 times a week. Don't worry!

I downloaded a program that automates tasks to see if I could program it to do just that, and I've succeeded. Bummer is that it's almost $100 for a license, so I doubt I'll be doing that, but it was fun to play with.

It was a pain to set up, 'cause you have to set individual tasks and all, but I have it set to go through my entire realm list and each of my census characters. I even have one task that starts at each of the realms so that I can start where I left off last time. lol

There is some user interaction, since censuses take different lengths of time on different servers. I had it pop up a message to halt it until I click ok when the census is done, but other than that, it goes right to the next one, and I just put the focus in game after the message pops up, so that I can hear the sound while I go back to whatever else I was doing. :)

Watch out for that. Sounds like an external program controlling WoW to automate functions. GMs might not care that it's only used to perform /who queries.

Yes I agree with Ceto. I would really watch out for that one. You don't want to lose your account because you wanted to get some more census runs in.

In theory you could modify CensusPlus to automatically start a census when you log in (maybe based on some conditional, like the character name ending in "census") and then log you out once the census is complete. If you came back and the computer was at the character list, you could hit the realm list and log into the next server.

Blizzard doesn't like it when people dont play at their keyboards... Its kinda like a bot... well it is more or less a bot that you had set up... And if caught could of resulted in a perm ban....

But hey your still here and taking Census readings :)

I know. I just wanted to play with it a bit to see if it could be done. I figured in the short time I was playing with it, no one is going to report 'cause I'm not running around in circles like an idiot. But yeah. Just wanted to see if it could be done.

I'd be careful though, there's been a new wave of bannings today and from what I've heard a lot of the people banned never even used the bot program outside instances, so no-one ever saw them to report them. Don't get yourself mistaken for a botter ;)

38 servers and counting. I usually try to hit the red ones, but haven't deleted any since I added them. I probably should do a little more research and try to concentrate on red only so I can maximize my census updates... :)

Yeah, blizzard has their Warden program actively sniffing processes running in your computer and such... so now you don't even need to be reported by someone else. Simply running a third party program can get you banned :\

Actually the way it works just running another program with the wrong process name will get you banned... Be careful what you run in general when WoW is running.
