Finding a character after faction/server/name change?

I notice you tag characters with a unique ID. Is it possible to find a character after they have done a faction/server/name change?

I checked someone I know, who transferred to another server. The character has a different ID there, so at least to that part of your question the answer is no, not possible. And I assume the same goes for the other parts.

Edit: Also checked someone who changed name... different WCR IDs again, so no there as well.

You can try http://www.wowprogress.com/detective/ for a search.
It uses the date of achievements to identify transferred characters.

Nice, I used to use that site but it broke when WotLK came, had removed it from my favourites thinking it wasn't going to be fixed, good to see it back again
