I got carried away...

Post by oiseaux »

So I usually put the census to autorun every minute. I went to check on Emerald Dream which is where I do most of my playing. There are almost 700 snapshots for the alliance side.

Hopefully this link works.

Anyone else ever see that many submissions on 1 server? We will probably break 800 before the end of the month I am sure.

Well, I run it manually and that gives me 400-600 submissions every month or on Bleeding Hollow now that the freezing issues are dealt with, back when there was several people doing submissions we hit 1500+ submissions... Too bad no one is doing horde side any more :/

In general submissions have dropped off somewhat. With the addition of more servers, and less submissions, data is lacking in many places. Anyone have any great ideas to encourage more people to submit (not make the current submitters work harder!)?

I know back when I offered the iPod for the drawing prize and announced it beforehand, it drove submissions way up. Perhaps offering bigger/better prizes, pre-announced will help encourage submissions?

Anyone have any thoughts?

Perhaps some more advertising would help - from all I see of any mentions on the official forums people just don't realise what it's all about or that submissions are needed. Like the various times when people write this site off as "inaccurate" or whatever, it's through not understanding it.

Europe is particularly low on understanding I think as all of the most active people here are on the US servers from what I've noticed of locations, servers listed in sigs etc, so there's not many people to explain things on the European forums (plus we have four languages which doesn't help, as it means four sets of forums). I don't know how much advertising on forums Blizz tolerate but it could be a way to make people more aware of the fact that help is needed - I've never noticed any particular explanation or advertising of the site on the European forums, I don't know about the US ones though.

Prizes may help a bit but I think more people being aware of the site and what it's about is the longterm solution... plus you shouldn't have to be spending money on prizes all the time - the Amazon vouchers are already very generous when they're every month! Maybe a one-off bigger prize to generate publicity, but doing it all the time would get expensive I think, unless you've got enough advertising revenue coming in to cover it.

Is it possible to get a banner swap with other WoW sites, say you put banners for their sites on this one and they carry your banner on their site - you could do something like "WarcraftRealms needs you" to catch the eye and have it lead to something on the site explaining why more submissions are needed and how to help.

I transferred off of Bleeding Hollow quite some time ago with the free transfer to Cho'gall. I don't remember them being that high but then again the every minute feature wasn't available. haha Just think how high that number would have been.

I agree with Rollie that I can't add anymore servers to my plate. We need to get new people to do at least 1 other server than the one they play on. If everyone that doesn't already do census on another server, adds 1 that would help out.

I also liked Balgair's suggestion. That might be something to look into, but most banners like that costs several hundred dollars a month or more depending on the site and Rollie's isn't really selling anything of his on here. So I don't see how he could make that back.(that is not assuming websites would be just nice enough to add it, but everyone wants their money and they don't want you to leave their site unless you have clicked on an ad of theirs)

Maybe if you put a banner on this site that says Warcraftrealms needs your help at the home page and on the realm stats page would get people's attention. I think a better explanation of what this site is would make more people understand. The homepage doesn't really have that. I just see 2 big buttons and lots of stuff to click on the left side.

I wanted to let you know I did a few on Bleeding Hollow tonight to help out your server's ratio. =D

That's an awesome idea.

I second what Balgair said about prizes. Way too expensive unless advertising covers it. Once in a while maybe, but I'm afraid that you'll get people to submit for that one month, and that will be it.

I know I plan on making a post on my guild forum to get people interested, even though they all play on the same server, and they'd be competition, but they also play on other servers.
