Server Transfer

I stopped playing WoW for a couple weeks and came back to find that one of my friends was gone from the server. Was told by somebody else that he transferred out. After searching around for a couple hours it seems he must have had to change his name when transferring.. any way to find him?

If he changed his name then I don't think there's really much chance of locating him. Sorry =(
