Come to Elendilmir server!
I'm there piddling a little, checking the game out, Tuffo, Hobbit Minstrel!
If enough folks are interested, we'll make a kinship (or whatever guilds are called there)!

I played the open beta of it since it was free
I enjoyed the story elements for sure, you know the mixture of open zones and instances. Plus, being immersed in Tolkien's universe was pretty fun. The controls, on the other hand, drove me crazy... just so loose and not sensitive enough. And a smart camera follow feature was also desperately, desparately needed. Other than that, I enjoyed myself - made a hobbit burglar

I'd probably try it out again, but it's not free atm...

Got a 7-day free trial from my flatmate but I think Europe has different servers to US

Not got around to trying it yet, maybe should but from what I've seen it looks like WoW in another world, so maybe not much new to it... plus I love the LOTR book to the point that I'm not sure I want my mental images of it to be affected by what I see in the game

Hmmm, was watching for a free beta to try it but never saw it so will likley give it a miss, looks very nice for PvE but a lot of the early comments from the devs about PvP and MMO's never ever going to work put me off completely... besides, I have a feeling wife has the only comp in the house that can comfortably run the game atm :/

Just the other day my husband said to install it and check it out.

I did play a Minstrel in the open beta and somehow managed to get in a group. lol I was such a newb and being a Minstrel I had to figure out how to heal. Just that feeling of a new game brought back memories of being a newb in WoW.
I thought the controls were exactly like WoW and had no problems at all jumping in to it. Holding the two mouse buttons together even made me run! I was amazed, but remember WoW is my first MMO so maybe all their controls are similar.

My biggest gripe thus far is the interface. I find it really lacking when you have the level of customization in WoW.
Yeah, there basically is no PVP tbh. The Monster play seems like an appeasement more than anything else and I can't see any real long term enjoyment in that aspect. I think as far as MMO PVP goes, we'll just have to see how Warhammer turns out.

Yeah, I definitely noticed that too Rollie, I'm used to quite a custom interface so that definitely took adjusting. What I meant about the controls wasn't which buttons you hit, but the level of control. For instance, if I were to tap the "d" key to turn right, in Wow my character would turn a tiny bit to the right. In LOTRO, my character would turn 45-60 degrees to the right with just a tiny tap. Plus, without a smart camera mode, controlling with the mouse is very painful. I'm used to mouse look with the left button, control with the right, and that doesn't work that well in LOTRO at all. Mind you, I'm speaking from the beta, so they might have fixed things in the final release.
And yeah, I was disappointed at the devs deciding to pretty much forgo all real character vs. character pvp. But hey, Rollie's right, there's always warhammer

Hmm all of those things you described I didn't notice. hehe And I despise the smart camera mode. I have it turned on never in WoW.

I played the beta...its a fun game...it seemed like a mix between Everquest and World of Warcraft to me. I'm not playing though...just don't have time.
