Lag and census

Just something to be aware of really, since I play on a high population PvP server I will no longer run census except the few times that I am crafting or scanning the AH for long enough. With "Honor" in the game the added lag from running a census is a killer and since it takes a good while to run, especially at prime time, I will avoid doing so. I'll try to still run census on off peak hours.

I don't mind dying much but getting frozen in a fight and dying for it always sux :/

I hope others don't have the same freezing going on as I do and can keep running census on peak hours, I'm posting here in case this is a general problem though?

Regularly purging your data will keep the census virtually lagless.

Yeah, I have heard that having a very full saved variables file will indeed slow it down. I haven't seen it as I purge pretty regularly.

Hmmm, it starts to freeze pretty much right away actually, a prime time census adds 1800-1900 characters right away which may be part of the problem of course. I could purge after each census of course but that wouldn't leave much data to send in at the end of the day ;)

Not sure how attached you are to your data, but if you don't mind, you might just try to purge and try a census and see if it still freezes up your system.

Are you running lootlink or gatherer UI mods?

I purge my data pretty regularly but as I said, running a census at prime time collects data pretty fast. I have started running gatherer lately but I had the freeze problem before that, I've stayed away from lootlink and similar mods since I get the feeling they generate quite a lot of overhead.

I'll have to keep an eye on this. This would be very annoying for sure. I'll start thinking of possible ways to break the data up to speed things up a bit.

I'm also on Bleeding Hollow, though on the Hoard side, I do play Primetime during the weekend and haven't had any problems with running census every half-hour and PvPing... well outside the usual zerg vs zerg lag anyway.

Also not having any problems inside MC.

The only thing I don't like is not being able to look at my guild/raid tab when its running.

Well, you'll be happy to know that the next version (coming within the next week!) will free that up and you will be able to do anything without the annoying auto-closing of windows and such while the census is running, including viewing your guild/raid tabs, quest panels, vendors, bank, etc etc etc. Just wish I had figured out this little trick sooner, hehe.
