Question : Server Creation

Post by Nestor »

I wanna start a char on a new Server (EU) being the resident population experts i guess when do you think Blizz are likely to make a new server(s)

i tried emailing them but got the same crap as usual (this is not a technical problem...etc etc).

Thx Nestor.

There really is no telling. It hasn't been readily apparent to me when Blizz has chosen to bring new servers online. I am sure there are many more factors involved than just population. They also have to worry about the additional setup and maintenance so they have to work out and justify costs of bringing a new server online vs. allowing server transfers from an overpopulated server.

So in short, I really don't know, hehe.

do you know how many people need to be using a server for it to become queued?

and what defines servers as being high/medium/low populated

I would add that it seems to be different for different servers at times and also that they change it sometimes.

The queue on Bleeding Hollow was for a while at 3000 players logged in counting both alliance and horde, after some work they did it went back to the 3500 it was before. Most US servers seem to have it at around 3500 but some that have had more performance issues have a lower one. From what I understand the EU servers had one at 3000, I don't know if that's the number they are still using or if they bumped it to 3500 or so after populations started to stabilize.

As for low, medium and high that's anyone's guess really, especially since the status indicator sometimes is plain wrong.

I dont think many servers are queued anymore, i think maybe the top 5 eu servers maybe have a queue in peak hours but when i played on zenedar 13500~ pop there was never a queue on that and it has never been flagged as technically full either. Seems like the most active realms are the ones where people make 1 char and play it for like ever rather than making alot of alts which seems to have happened on zenedar.

After looking at some of the servers it seems that 3000 people online at once might be the cut off point from when there is a queue. although this may be different for US servers.

I also noticed that at non peak times during the day more servers are flagged as low and at peak times alot more go to high/medium so i think that must be based on how many people are playing at that time or maybe an average over the last 24 hrs or so...
