PVP - No mercy server, kill or be killed. You won't find many cross-faction dance parties on these servers.

PVE - Kill when you want - lets you experience the game content w/o looking over your shoulder ever 10 seconds like on a PVP server. Good if you're new to MMORPG, or may move to PVE if you can't take the hardcore PVP style. (It can be fun, and ruthless at times..)

RP - Roleplay - content with user roleplay added. Basically PVE with alot of folks playing out their own adventures inside the game's built-in ones as well. Good for leisurely play, or if RP is what you're looking for.

Then - decide the faction you want to play. Horde, or Alliance?

After that - you should decide what sort of 'population' server you want to play on; If you like playing solo, a low pop server is likely your best bet. Looking to group alot? a high pop server is where to go.

Then after all that, pick the one with the name you like best in your timezone, and get to playing!

Yea, what he said, except...

I would stay away from a high population server! If you want grouping go medium population. With a high population server you are going to have to wait in queue to get into the server, and the lag is going to be terrible.

Also, think about picking a server close to your time zone:

low pop PVP servers are the best IMO. no lag, pvp when you want it, AND you can quest without bein ganked every 30 seconds. seems to make the 1 on 1 pvp in the wilderness even more intense.

anyway, that's just my opinion.
