Hehe, I had something like this in the works for WR. I doubt I will pursue plans to give this same info though, but I have some ideas for ways to enhance what we are given.

I do like that Blizz is offering some stats though and hope they continue this trend!

Would be great if we could compare the class %'s for the top 10, 20, 50, 100, 1000. Sort it by faction, pvp/pve/rp servers etc

Also how it changes week to week, especially when patches come out and some classes are buffed or nerfed.

Ah okay, then I'm not quite sure where this comes from? If this is in response to the pay for option of enhanced sigs, then I don't quite understand. None of the current features of WR are going to become pay per, only enhanced sigs. And the only reason for that is so hopefully enhanced sigs can fund their own separate server so the processing/bandwidth won't impact the website itself.

i love the service you provide us for free. i understand the monster is expensive. I see a huge parallel between what you have, where it seems to be heading, and what people seem to EXPECT, to what EQRankings was/is. I personally think you should look at what they offer and see what you can offer without directly copying. You could allow more guild controls, character profiles, and charge for premium use. You have an untapped goldmine at your fingertips. It's that i think we all would hate to see you change from who you are to *the man*. I think we all enjoy the interaction with you, and your willingness to let us participate in your project. Hell, i just enjoy having somewhere to troll *grinz*

As far as community goes, I am firmly committed to the community. That's why this was all created in the first place. Without community, this site would be nothing!

What kind of pitfalls do you see that EQRankings made? I'm not really familiar with their services so I honestly don't know what kind of parallels I might be running to them! I just add in stuff here that I think would be useful and fun!

the pitfalls that came with the eqrankings/magelo deal was that alot of users flat out refused to pay for the services due to the stigmata of ventrix history. No one, who was aware of the history, wanted to further line this guys pocket. It devaluated a wonderful resource.

The Services:
Player profile (authenticated and non-authenticated)
Guild Roster
Guild Progression
Player Rankings sortable by specific stats, servers, game wide, class only, level yadda yadda
Guild comparisons
Character comparisons

Downside:
anyone could fabricate a toon with any stats
character history unavailable
inacurate due to lack of participation

Upside:
Guild Leaders/Officers could remove/add players


I think what youre doing here is great, it stops the creation of fake chars. I think it would be awesome if people who claim their toons and paid for premium service could have some sort of profile/gear/hks (kinda like profiles on thottbot or allaz), add guild controls only to be updated by premium members who are also guild leader/officers so they could prune out, also if you charged perhaps guilds membership and offer a small amount of board space and of course some sort of guild management tools youd be rockin and get some customers. i know our guild uses a free board and it blows real bad. we dont really want to pay for our own domain space and bw, but to have boards somewhere that doesnt totally limit us like our current host does (for example our signatures can only have 500 chars and each post is limited to 30k chars) would be totally worth paying a small fee for and i am sure there are other smaller guilds out there who would love the same services. I know i miss being able to compare my char stats to all the other chars of hte same class on the same server and being able to click a button and report to our guild hey look we stand X:X on our server for total xp gained, total hks, total lvl 60s yadda yadda would be hella cool

Some of those are pretty cool ideas. Some I had thought of and some I hadn't. I would love to provide better guild management options and even some guild type hosting, and I have even done a little work in this department, but it's hard to find enough time to get it all done, hehe.

Things will continue to come online as I can get to 'em and I'll keep improving as I can =)

I have some work to do in this area, but it was pretty easy to get up and running using the Character Profiling addon that was available so I added it in. I will add some improvements here hopefully very soon!

damn i sure did miss that. updating my sigs then =P

For right now profiles are only available if you explicitly have them parsed after you upload your SavedVariables file. There is a post here somewhere about it, I'll see if I can find it.

Reading over this... the only pitfall of EQRankings seems to be that it charged its users.

What Rollie provides here free of charge is astounding. It is a testiment to what game and a good community can do. Rollie IMO is the best fansite operator in all of WoW with the people at Curse Gaming and Alakahzam right behind him.
