Blizzard vs Peons4Hire

Post by DM. »

Blizzard's continuous efforts to combat in game gold spamming has lead to a federal lawsuit against the operators of Peons4hire.

Eyonix had the following to share in this post:

As many of you know, the latest content patch, along with many great new content additions, contains technical counter-measures designed to combat in-game gold spamming. Our efforts to reduce in-game abuse and create a fun, safe environment for everyone are never-ending.

With that said, we felt that it was important to share with the community just how serious we are in our efforts to combat this type of abuse. Blizzard has filed a federal lawsuit against the operators of Peons4hire, a popular gold-selling organization which many of you have no doubt seen advertised. As part of the lawsuit, the operators of Peons4hire have been asked to immediately cease all in-game spamming efforts by all entities and websites under their control.

If this organization refuses to act accordingly, further legal action will be taken. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the progress of this topic.

then continues several posts later:

Our efforts to combat this type abuse will be ongoing, I assure you. Also, keep in mind that Peons4hire was one of the larger organizations focused on in-game spam abuse. Do not underestimate the value of the message this action will send to to others who participate in similar abuse.

In short, we're making waves. :P

This is definitely great news and shows how serious Blizzard is at stopping the spam.

It's about time. But then again there is a very good change there lawers where planning and figuring out everything how to make 100% sure they will crush the assholes. Also they where problebly collecting alot of evidence aswell. Just pure speculation but that would be how I would do it :).

Evidence might be something like over 1 million players have reported someone from one of their websites to stop the spam.

You could set up a bunch of mindless people report someone, but 1.000.000 is way beyond that xD.

Anyway, the spam is one thing ofcourse. Don't know if that breaks the TOS? But gold selling certainly does, was talking about the selling it self. If they play it right they attack them on that point aswell and take down their full operations, instead of just the spamming part.

...not holding my breath that Blizzard will crush anything, they're a business first and will apply a finite amount of resources to this, if they manage to draw blood from the gold sellers it will be a very good thing though.

Very good news indeed, have to say I think the patch made a difference, as I've not had a single spam whisper since it, which is a massive improvement; it was awful the last few weeks. Here's hoping this makes even more progress.

thottbot's always been pretty terrible in terms of setup imo... I used allakhazam until I found wowhead :)

And yeah I didn't get any gold whispers in 8 hours last night, which was a huge relief.

You guys should come hop on the wowwiki irc if you ever have the time. Info on that can be found at http://www.wowwiki.com/IRC . Skosiris, one of the head hanchos at wowhead, hangs out on there, so if you ever have a question, go ahead and message him or just say his name on the channel. Alternatively, if you have a suggestion you want fast tracked through the piles of emails he gets... :)

/me ends shameless plug for Sko.

If I remember rightly, it's not actually possible to edit posts in this subforum... unless you happen to have moderator powers ;)

(Which lead to minor issues when I hit edit instead of quote  Think I put it back how it was in the first place, sorry! :P)
