WoWHead.com Sells Out

Post by Rollie »

Insider information has rustled up that Affinity Media has purchased WoWHead.com for over $1 Million USD. After the story broke on <a href='http://www.techsoapbox.com/'>http://www ... ox.com/</a>, WoWHead eventually confirmed the sale <a href='http://www.wowhead.com/'>http://www.wowhead.com/</a>. That means Affinity Media now owns Allahkazam, Thottbot, and WoWHead.

Wow interesting......

They were sold to Affinity Media, which use to own IGE but no longer does. But it still owns Alla and Thottbot.

Sure they sold out. If you sell to someone, you sold out, doesn't matter who it is.

As for the whole Affinity <-> IGE relationship, that is yet to be revealed. While Affinity claims to have sold IGE, and I have certain sources that do confirm something about that, it doesn't show the big picture and what kind, if any, of ongoing relationship they still share.

Interesting little article at <a href='http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-973374 ... l'>CNet</a>

Brock Pierce (CEO of IGE) was walking around with an Affinity Media badge on as recently as 2 days ago at a Virtual Goods Convention.

I'm not saying that anyone is being dishonest in claiming that Affinity Media no longer owns IGE, but that sure seems strange to me.

Where does it mention Affinity anywhere in that article? Sure, if you can dig up that little piece of info somewhere, or at least mention where you got it from, I'll take that as fact... :/

Ah, there were actually 2 articles at CNet. I didn't like the one where the guy says he saw Brock wearing an Affinity badge:

<a href='http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-973403 ... 0-5'>"When I was at the Virtual Goods Summit at Stanford yesterday, I had a talk with Brock Pierce, IGE's founder, and he didn't say anything about it. It's true, he was wearing a badge from "Affinity Media," and admittedly, I am not entirely up to speed on the latest news in this industry, but rather than suggesting IGE had been sold and Affinity was getting out of the secondary market business, he hinted he wanted to get out."</a>

So uh... Who are Affinity Media? Unless In-Game Dollar is a subsidiary of Affinity Media, then Affinity Media does not own Peons4Hire. So who are they?

WoW will always be WoW to us... or w0w to me. Plus it's only natural to try to differentiate the words in a URL.

If someone came to me and wanted to buy something for a million dollars. That would be hard to pass up. Gold buying is not a moral issue to me, so I would do it.

Wowhead was already in the Zam network which was part of allakhazam and thottbot so I am not sure what the commotion is about. They were already indirectly owned by the gold sellers. Am I missing something?
