Problems: Slow Scanning, Tabbing Out and Instances

I have another few of those annoying newb questions:

When I start the census scan and tab out, scanning very often remains stuck at that position and only resumes when I tab back in. Is that normal - i.e. does scanning while being tabbed out work at all? Sometimes the scan runs to the end, but not very often.

In the above situation, and sometimes even when I'm not tabbed out, the progress is slow and I get an error message along the lines of "scanning is too slow". Is there anything to be done to avoid this?

Is it possible to run the scan while being in a dungeon/BG/in a CRZ group on another server?

Asking questions is good... and sometimes, things change overtime.

I run WoW in windowed mode most of the time, so I generally do not tab out. However, I have noticed that minimizing the window tends to put the scanning on hold.

It has been a long time since I last saw the "scanning is too slow" message...and when it happened, it occurred while my internet connection and Battle.net were both having problems AND I was scanning a very high activity faction. So the likely answer is no, though someone else might have additional input here.

The scan works while in dungeons and CRZ groups, but it will NOT run during battlegrounds (or arenas, I think, though I have not tested the arena part personally).

Urgh... sorry about the multipost. :( Seems the message went through multiple times after the errors were fixed. :(

Ty very much for the advice - I'll just have to get used to not being able to scan when tabbed out.

The error message though I get a lot, even if my net and Battle.net are working fine - but admittedly most often when it's a very crowded faction. That might be it.

Again, thanks for the input :).

If you don't already run windowed mode ("Windowed (Fullscreen)" option looks just the same as "Fullscreen" when you use it), it's worth trying it - it clears up a few similar problems for me, at least. Also if you have Windows 7 it lets you use the taskbar mouseover to check if your census has finished instead of needing to tab in, which is a nice bonus :)
