looking for a good server to transfer to

Post by ados »

I am a lvl 55 orc hunter on anub'arak. I made that character there 3 weeks ago to play with a friend....and I am very disappointed with the lack of world PvP and player maturity.

I am considering a paid character transfer, but I want to transfer to a great PvP server.

Right now I am looking at Laughing Skull and Emerald Dream. Are these servers good, or do you have a recommended server?

Oh no don't do Emerald Dream(US)! I used to be on there and had to leave because it is full of 12 year olds (no offense to mature 12 year olds). It is an RP-PVP server just so you know and I swear those realms attract the biggest whiners, idiots, and report happy people. I went there for the RP and it is so hard to even find any. The first month I was there the server was great, but it began to change for the worse. There are horde guilds specifically there to ruin RP events and the economy is the worst I have ever seen. Here is my post about how horrible Emerald Dream is that I made just before BC came out. This will give you a better idea.

I admit that I have hopped around..a lot. I haven't been able to find a server that I really liked. Now I really like Archimonde (I hope that never changes). Probably the first server I actually feel welcomed in. I love the diversity. There are people from all around the world here. I have seen russian, french, and even german spoken in say in IF. It is always medium pop and I only saw a 10 person queue twice. That was the first and second day after the BC release. I have been stuck in 500 person queues on Emerald Dream and that was really frustrating.

Here is archimonde's census page. I have been slacking on updates, so the alliance number is a lot lower than it used to be. Of course I am on the Alliance side so Horde may be completely different. Even our realm forums are tame. http://www.warcraftrealms.com/census.php?serverid=76

Laughing Skull I know nothing about.

Plus, Archimonde's in the coolest battleground cluster - Stormstrike :P

I would say come to Mal'ganis, but it's not a very friendly server to transfers (due to our queue times going through the roof back when 2.0 and BC came out.) Now though it hovers around medium/high population though, so I don't see it being an issue. However, Mal'ganis is still home to some of the snobbiest guilds that play this game (both horde and alliance) so... yeah, I'd probably go with archimonde :p Not that I'd ever leave Mal'ganis, it is my home, but it's not for everyone that's for sure ;)

My husband and I were actually considering on transferring there from Emerald Dream, but the queues were definitely a turn off. Blizzard was also threatening to do server splits and that was a little scary!

I love our battlegroup. Probably the best one out there! The 29 twink scene is awesome in our battlegroup and that is all I have been doing these past few weeks.

I'm definitely glad they didn't end up splitting the server... I guess between the split threats and the high queues enough people left to get it back under queued. Definitely thankful for that, haha.

Yeah, I had my shammy at 29 for awhile and had a blast. Been considering leveling my priest or warlock for the bracket but I've been too busy with raiding / getting keyed for stuff on my hunter to have the extra time. Hopefully I'll get to soon, though :)

What is a server split? (Can think of multiple things but don't know what blizzards idea of that is.)

Half the characters stay on the server, and half are moved to a new realm.

Yeah, it's pretty sucky for everyone involved. Blizz said they'd only do it as an absolute last resort, and I'm glad they didn't have to.

Yea they didn't need too because they increased the caps on all realms so there hasn't been a queue on most, if not all realms, since before Burning Crusade came out =)

Well, Mal'ganis at least had a ridiculous queue from when 2.0 came out to about 2 or 3 weeks after Burning Crusade came out. Getting d/c'd during a raid and then having to wait through a 700+ person queue to get back in was just horrible. I'm glad they raised the caps and offered 2 free transfers to get people off, since it's much better now.

I think the lack of queues has more to do with less people playing the game than with them raising caps. Emerald Dream had queues of around 500 when BC came out. Now I have no idea what they are today because I don't play on there anymore. I suspect it is either no queue or very small queues of 50 or less around prime time.

Karazhan is a war zone every night on Mal'ganis, usually the poor allies have to die like 5 times before they can get in, haha. Although, once the horde guilds go inside, the alliance takes their revenge upon any horde that come riding in. It's fun times :P My guild always laughs about how if there's an even number of horde and alliance, they're much more likely to leave each other alone... but as soon as either side gets a slight numbers advantage, they attack the other faction. It does make for fun while trying to summon though :P
