how often does blizzard make new realms?

i created an account just to ask this question because apparently i couldn't google the answer nor did the search function help me.

perhaps i was searching the wrong keyword but i'll just post this here while i continue to find out.

i'm an old player. recently the news of cataclysm has awakened my inner gamer and i felt the need to begin before wow4 goes live.

since i was going to do it i thought i'd do it on a new realm. right on the day it opens.

so i'm looking to see when a new realm would be opened but i couldnt find any news on it.

also how would i know if blizz plans to open a new realm or what date would that realm become live?

please help me

when players were hopping on board blizz opened up more servers. lately it's been contracting, the merging of servers plus being able to have 2 kinds of characters on a pvp realm, as well as free character transfers has pretty much evened out the need to make a new server.
