I was thinking the same thing... However if you look at the main forum page:

As of posting it shows,
We have 50797 registered users
The newest registered user is ilmarex

But if you look at the link the profile id is 58950.... so its clearly over 8000 numbers off *shrugs*

Just use the member list. heartless is User 23, with profile ID 28. What fun!

The reason the numbers don't match is due to a clean up script that I run weekly that deletes any unactivated accounts that are older than like 60 days or something. So you can actually catch the number of registered users dropping sometimes =)

Hell, and look at me, I'm profile ID #2, and I was the first one here!

Because the first profile that comes with all PHPBB boards was deleted since you didn't use it. At least that's the reasoning I can think of.
