Here's the gig. I spoke with Norganna who is the original author of Auctioneer to be sure she didn't mind I used the data. Once I got the all clear, I started processing any Auctioneer data that was submitted with Census+ data.
Now, I took the AHSnapshot data which tracks items you see in the AH and gets the Buyout price associated with the listing. I then do some math on the buyouts, getting the mean, median and standard deviation. I throw out anything not within 1 standard deviation to get rid of extremes in buyout figures. I then average the buyouts per item, server, and faction. I then take a select group of items that I think will give a good 'index' for that server/faction's economic scale and sum all the averages of those items (similar to how the DOW Jones Industrial average works). Feel free to poke holes in this logic, but it seems the best way possible to come up with an index.
Anyway, after all that is done, here's what we have! What you will find here are the values I had available for last week utilizing what I describe above. I will follow up this message with a list of the 25 items I am using for the index.
